Ron Arad

Ron Arad's witty and daring originality goes well beyond the standard pragmatic requirements of interior design. He cannot help involving us in a deeply rewarding experience which goes far beyond impressions of chic and superficial elegance.

Ron Arad was born in Tel Aviv in 1951. He studied first at the Jerusalem Academy of Art and from 1974 until 1979 at the Architectural Association - School of Architecture in London. In 1981 he founded OneOff Ltd, a company that produced his first successful furniture designs and interior structures based on found objects, designed components, tubes and clamps. In 1989 he started Ron Arad Associates Ltd, a design enterprise which was commissioned with the design of the public spaces in the Tel Aviv Opera House. Both his companies are now located in Camden Town, near London.

Always taking his time to make something special, brandishing a welding torch, shaping, bending and polishing metal to make it come alive, Ron Arad is a singular creator-craftsman who has radically redefined the aesthetics of architecture and design.

Big Easy Volume 2

Out of the windmills of his mind and the energetical improvisations crafted in his workshop emerge raw and powerful objects that have a life of their own, rocking, swaying and flexing responsively in their surprising interactions with the human being.

Light Table

Something about Ron Arad's pieces resonates strongly in us. His playful innocence combined with his clever teasing of the laws of equilibrium tends to throw us off balance. But only for a moment. He will always bring us back to the primordial safety of a swinging rhythm and the beauty of authentically crafted materials.
